Frequently Asked Questions
Here at LightHouse we have a wonderful team of licensed therapists who are available to work with you and your child! We pride ourselves on having no waitlists and believe that everyone deserves easy and timely access to mental health services.
Every child and family is unique so together, you, your child, and the therapist will determine the most effective plan to help your child meet their goals. In some cases, it makes sense for the parent to attend with the child, and in other cases it doesn’t. Sometimes, it makes sense to include the parent in only parts of the session.
Although we don’t provide ADHD assessments, one of our main areas of expertise is in working with children with ADHD or symptoms of ADHD. We are very familiar with the challenges that face children who struggle with focus, attention, and hyperactivity. Interventions can include both indirect and direct skills training combined with other therapeutic interventions to help reduce the challenges faced by your child and help them feel their best.
The initial consultation is a 20 minute virtual appointment where you have the opportunity to meet with a therapist to talk about your main concerns and what brought you to counselling. Your therapist will guide the conversation by asking you some questions that will help them determine how we might help. You can ask any questions you have to help you determine how you’d like to move forward. At the end of the consultation, recommendations and resources will be provided, and you will have the opportunity to book your therapy appointments.
Your first therapy session starts with a warm welcome from your therapist. The therapist will review the agreement for service forms that were sent to you before the session, and you will have the opportunity to let us know if you’re comfortable moving forward. Once consent has been established, your therapist will spend time getting to know you, your goals, and will start to work on the plan that will help you get to where you want to be.
